Are you planning a land development activity (including subdivision), a purchase or sale or applying for a resource consent - you should consider whether the property contains or has contained an activity that may be potentially contaminating. Contaminating activities could include orchards, vineyards, woolsheds, workshops, sheep dips, pesticide application, storage of chemicals/fuel and industrial activities or demolition of a building. These activities are found listed on the Hazardous Activities and Industries List (HAIL) If a HAIL activity has taken place or is taking place then the National Environmental Standards (NES) for soil needs to be considered as you may need an assessment to support your consent application. In many cases an investigation will need to be carried out by a Suitably Qualified and Experienced Practitioner (SQEP).
